Another remix for ya long weekend… This time its our take on Amanda Blank’s ‘Might Like You Better’. It was already a banger, we just gave it a different angle. When it comes to the ‘club rap’ thing, Amanda has it locked down. You should go buy her new album while you’re at it. Its pretty diverse, which i like in an album… A bit of diversity, which i believe is an old wooden ship used in the civil war era.

Afterlife
by Mikey Likey on Aug.27, 2009, under gigs
Whether you have a ticket to Parklife or not, you need to get along to this. Its the official afterparty at the Empire Hotel. They have got the whole building… thats the Moon Bar, Middle Bar, and Corner Bar. Its going to be fucking LARGE! Featuring some of Brisbane’s finest including Aniki, Cutloose, and Charlie Hustle. Our mates from Sydney, the Purple Sneakers Djs will be there tearing it a new one, plus some relatively unknown djs like A-Trak (jokes!). Oh yeah and we’ll be there too! Come have a beer with us if you’re still standing by then. Oh and the best part – festival attire is ok if you have proper shoes on! That means no going home for a change and a shower and then realizing you’re actually pretty tired and maybe you’ll just watch an episode of ‘The Wire’ and call it a day…. na-uh, just go straight there after the last stage at Parklife shuts!
This weekend…
by Mikey Likey on Aug.26, 2009, under gigs
Another gig this weekend if your up Brisbane way – this should also be a cracker. If you’ve never been to Barsoma, the place is amazing. Its definately one of our favourite venues to play in Brisbane so we always put 110% in there. We are on 12:30 till close so come get down with us (after we finish at ‘After Dark’ of course)! Oh and i heard along the grapevine that they have just upgraded their sound system too. It was no slouch before, but im excited to see whats in store for us now!!
The Shirt Swap
by Mikey Likey on Aug.26, 2009, under adventures
Last weekend at the end of a particularly boozey night, i witnessed an epic shirt-swap moment. Our boy Paddy was wearing a Surecut Kids tee and another friend of ours, Bradley, was eyeing it off pretty heavily and asking where to get one from etc etc… Then without a second thought, Paddy whipped his shirt off and gave it to him. I had to intervene and explain to Bradley that now he should give one of his shirts to Paddy so he doesn’t get kicked out for being half naked in the club. It was such a hilariously awesome moment, it was like two soccer players exchanging jerseys after the grand final!
Slow Burner
by Mikey Likey on Aug.24, 2009, under mp3, slow burner
The new Gossip album has been out for a minute now and of course its amazing. Produced by the legendary Rick Rubin, its everything you would hope for in a follow up to ‘Standing in the way of control’. Beth Ditto is right at the top of my list for ’singers i’d like to remix/do a track with’.
But aside from the hits that the band is known for, they also rule at making these amazing slow-burners that are just incredible! These are two of my favourites…’Four Letter Word’ sounds kind of like if Beth Ditto did a track with The Knife. And ‘Are you that somebody’ is a cover of an old Aaliyah song (i think?).

This weekend…
by Mikey Likey on Aug.24, 2009, under gigs
If you find yourself anywhere near Brisbane this weekend, come say hi to us at this event. Its ‘Attica Presents: After Hours’. We are going to be in the carpark doing our thing. Should be a fun night! And if you’ve never been to the fort, it’ll be worth it just to check out the venue… the place is awesome!
Big Bad’s studio
by Mikey Likey on Aug.21, 2009, under adventures
Last week we paid a visit to our good friend Dj Big Bad from The Winnie Coopers. He’s been working on their new album and needed to call in some help recording a skit. Turns out he needed a couple of guys to act like drunk goofballs after a gig. So who better to lend a hand than us?
We recorded a bunch of takes, each time pretending to be drunk and talking over each other babbling about how much we love the band and how they should let us bust some raps for them and how our cousin is a mad dj and etc etc etc… It was really fun and we found that ‘being annoying’ came really naturally to us.
Also, Biggie had an awesome studio setup – click below to see the pics…
A-Trak Live at the Do-Over
by Mikey Likey on Aug.20, 2009, under Mixtapes, mp3
Everyone knows A-Trak is ruling things at the moment. And he deserves the credit too, the guy can do anything. Turntablism, Hip Hop, Electro, remixing and production, and lately even house (although im not really feelin that last one, but hey… fifty billion people are into it so who am i to say?).
Anyways, i always hear bitter old hip hop dudes criticise him for going in the more electronic direction lately. So this link is for those guys… Its a dj set from A-Trak at ‘The Do-Over’ in LA a couple weeks ago. Its all party tunes… hip hop, funk, disco etc… Plenty of good time summer jams in there.
The Do-Over is a weekly sunday party that happens in the summer where they have a BBQ and red-hot dj sets from all your favourites, and they never advertise who is playing so its always a surprise.
Nick Thayer & Dj Yoda Remix

When ‘Bonkers’ came out i avoided it like getting my wisdom teeth out. I just didn’t want to be that guy playing the same song that was booming out of every other club on the block. Anyways, now that Nick Thayer and Dj Yoda have remixed it im going to have to eat my words. They have given it a big beat treatment with enough change-ups and interesting bits to sway even this bitter old sceptic.
In case you don’t know, Nick Thayer is Melbourne’s king of party remixes. When it comes to taking a tune into ‘club’ territory, he has a lock. And Dj Yoda is hands down one of the most entertaining djs around. He is one of those guys i’m always harping on about that have skills, plus knows how to rock a party. I saw him play a few years back and besides playing a great party hip hop set he was dropping gems like ‘hi-ho its off to work we go’ and the original ‘neighbours’ theme. Good times!!
Anyhoo, enjoy.
Day-O… Daaaaay-O…..
by Mikey Likey on Aug.18, 2009, under youtube
My girl and I watched Beetlejuice late the other night. Hadn’t seen it in ages… Apart from being an awesome film and a twisted concept, its got a couple scenes in it where the ghosts possess the people in the house and force them to dance to calypso music. The first one is my favourite musical scene in a movie ever – the song is ‘Day-O’ by Harry Belafonte.
The second one is ‘Jump in the line’ also by Harry Belafonte… I love to play this song in my dj sets because its got such an undeniable ‘jump up and dance’ feel to it.
BEETLEJUICE… BEETLEJUICE… BEETLEJUICE…
nerd party!
by Mikey Likey on Aug.16, 2009, under adventures
How good are dress-up parties? There’s something about going out dressed ridiculous that makes people get buck-wild. And they’re always the best dancefloors too! You’ve got the silly-dancing happening early which makes for a more ‘fun night out’ vibe as opposed to the ‘dancing carefully so i don’t sweat’ vibe.
We played this awesome ‘nerd party’ this weekend. Such a great crowd and a hilarious night. Here’s some pics to show you what i mean…
KILLAQUEENZ song ‘BITCHES’ unofficial remix

This is a unofficial remix that i did of a KillaQueens track out called ‘Bitches’. KillaQueens are smashing it lately with they latest album Sisterhood, you should definitely check they’re album out. It’s such a refreshing sound to whats been going down of late, my favourite stand out track is ‘Double up’ with the South Rukkas Crew. We have just been asked to support KillaQueenz at Neverland coolangatta on the 3rd of October for their Boyfriend EP launch which should be a hell of a show.
Psyde Projects EP
by Mikey Likey on Aug.12, 2009, under mp3
If you are a fan of hip hop music at all, i strongly recommend you peep this: Its the new EP from Melbourne super-group, The Psyde Projects. Its got it all… dope production, mad flows, and best of all it’s got the funk. There’s too many staunch hip hop acts out there that miss the point these days. Back in myyyyy day etc etc….. Anyways these guys have nailed it with this release. But don’t take my word for it, download it…… they’re generous enough to release it as a freebie! And keep an ear out for these guys – i guarantee they will be doing damage all over the place in the very near future.
While we’re on the topic, i should mention that Mr Moonshine (the dj and one of the producers) is no slouch behind the decks. I used to do do a few nights with him back when i lived down in Olde Melbourne Towne and i gotta say he was one of the best around. And when it comes to rocking a set using only 45s, ive never seen anyone in oz that could touch him. Check out his blog here at Woo-Ha and whenever you’re in Melbourne i suggest you clear your schedule and go see The Psyde Projects in action!
