What up, Mackay!

by Mikey Likey on Aug.19, 2010, under adventures, gigs

Code 1st Bday - Surecut kidsHappy weekend! And if you live in Mackay, this one’s for you. We are playing at Code nightclub’s 1st birthday. We had such a great time up there at the River Sessions festival recently that we jumped at the chance to get back up there and stink the place up. If you live up that way, it’s time you put on your comfy shoes and “leave it all on the dancefloor”. See you there!!

Neverland Monthly Iphone Footage

by boozy b on Aug.18, 2010, under adventures, gigs, youtube

This was filmed by our awesome friend Jimmy on his Iphone 4, i think he filmed it just so he could show off the fact he has a Iphone 4. My favorite part is when Snatchy our mascot gets his beer knocked out his hands from a beach ball around the 30sec mark. What a night it was!!

This week in Sydney…

by Mikey Likey on Aug.10, 2010, under adventures, gigs

Hello friends. We are hitting the road once again tomorrow, feels like i just finished unpacking my bag and now im packing it again! Anyways, we have some awesome parties coming up. If you’re in Sydney you should come check these out…

dust tones

First up is Dust Tones. If you havent been to a Dust Tones party before, its a weekly night at Beach Rd Hotel, Bondi. Its geared toward the Hip Hop, Dancehall, Dubstep end of things. We played one a while back and it was a ridiculously good night.

We will be running 4 decks and the MPC, and have prepared a whole bunch of new routines and tricks for the night. Its going to be a killer night and best of all its free!! We will be on from 10pm till midnight.

PS_13.08.10_col-web-465x650And then afterwards we will be racing over to play a set at Purple Sneakers. This will be more of an indie/party set and will no doubt be an extremely loose party, considering that PhDJ and Joyride are on the bill. Come get even sweatier than you could imagine with us! Hopefully this time nobody will break two mixers by spilling Jager on them… Im looking at YOU, PhDJ!

Surecut Kids Video Diary #2 (Hamilton Island) from renee honey on Vimeo.

Our video diary series continues with number two!! After freezing our tits off playing down in Melbourne, we flew up to Hamilton Island for a show at Club Boheme. The night was a huge success and the club went bananas! We dragged along our movie maker extraordinaire Nay to make another diary entry of the good times . After the gig we spent a couple of extra days on the island thawing out and kicking back. Enjoy!!

This weekend in Port Macquarie…

by Mikey Likey on Jul.01, 2010, under adventures, gigs

35559_402306491687_633371687_4839359_1284138_nHey friends, it’s Thursday so i can officially talk about this coming weekend without it being over-eager. I figure that Mondays and Tuesdays you’re allowed to talk about how good last weekend was. Wednesdays are the overlapping day when you can speak about either weekend, but it is considered more appropriate to lean towards the upcoming weekend. And Thursdays and Fridays are a no-brainer.

Anyways, this weekend we have a very awesome show to look forward to. We are playing at The Beach House in Port Macquarie, which is going to be an adventure in itself, but check out the lineup! Our boy (and chief of the Bieber-Fever fanclub) Sampology, Funktrust Djs (Triple J Radio), and our friends the Smoke & Mirrors Djs. Everyone on this lineup (except us) totally wrecks shop! If you’re within a reasonable drive of Port this Saturday, id recommend you clear out your schedule and get yo ass there to have a beer with us all!

Oh and one last thing – Starkey from Smoke & Mirrors warned me to bring something warm because “my balls have never been so small”. So there you have it people, Starkey’s ball-size is at an all time low.

Happy Monday friends! Thought i’d share with you this diagram that (through the use of scarves) demonstrates the many moods of one half of Surecut Kids, Boozy B.

On the left we have ‘Approachable Ben’, or ‘The Ben Next Door’. In the middle is ‘Bad Boy Benny’. And finally on the right we have the cheeky little number known as ‘Fortune Balls’.

Our party at Neverland

by Mikey Likey on Jun.21, 2010, under adventures, gigs

surecut_97Last Saturday night was the launch of our new monthly party at Neverland in Coolangatta. It was a massive night of debaucherous partying that has left many of us with party-wounds and hilarious photos. We had our boy Bradley in a vagina-suit dancing around on stage as our mascot ‘Snatchy’, plus some giant inflatable dicks, plus a whole bunch of balloons and crazy dress-ups available for people to help themselves to. The club was rammed, people danced, people smashed each other with novelty oversized genitals, we had a ball. In fact it was my favourite club night ever. Big call i know, but it was very fucking fun! Some highlights included Snatchy spraying the crowd with beer, and crowd surfing to ‘Too Many Dicks On The Dancefloor’. The Last Beatniks came and took some amazing photos of the night, check them all out on our facebook page. Massive thanks to the Neverland family, Bradley, Rebekka and Clare from Thelastbeatniks, and especially massive love and thanks to everyone who came out and got buck-wild with us! See you next time!!

Never Land Blog

by Mikey Likey on Jun.01, 2010, under adventures, gigs

neverland
Good evening Classy Dames and Respectable Gentlemen. I’d like to introduce you to Neverland. The coast’s dopest spot to see bands, djs, movies, see artwork, do shots, get sweaty, stay up late, shake your booty etc. I’m assuming most of you would already be familiar with the place by now, and if not, do yourself a favour and get there. Its awesome.

We will be having a monthly Surecut party there as of the 19th. Its gonna be a night to get buck-wild, hear some loud music, have a laugh, maybe a few cheeky drinks and a boogie. We are very much looking forward to turning it out for our local spot and of course all the amazing friends that frequent the place.

Aaaaaaanyhoo, more on that later. For now i want to tell you about their new blog. It was just launched this week and its fresh to def. Its a community based site that has contributors from the worlds of music (thats us!), art, fashion, plus all sorts of things you need to be up on if you reside in the southern GC.

The place has got a lot of cool shit on the horizon and we are stoked to be a part of it. Show some love by checking out their pretty new website!

Check it out here

Winnie Coopers Gig at The Loft last weekend

by Mikey Likey on Mar.15, 2010, under adventures, gigs

Hi friends, thought i’d post a wrap-up of the Winnie Coopers gig that went down at The Loft last weekend. As you’d expect it was a great show. The boys kill it every time and this one was no different. The Loft is a cosy little bar with heaps of ‘chillin at a friends place’ appeal, so it was a great choice of venue. Also, The Educator (one of the rappers/singers) lives about a block away so im guessing that may have come into consideration too haha!

The guys played a red-hot set made up of some new tunes from their forthcoming album, plus a few old favourites. There was also a country theme happening with bails of hay and saddles strewn across the front of the dancefloor and the Coopers all wearing their plaid shirts. They even started the set with a Johnny Cash joint! Some dude in the crowd got excited and climbed up the wrong side of the stairwell and was dancing above everyone making us all fear for our lives. And another audience member had a sketchbook and was in the middle of the crowd doing the most insane sketches of everything that was happening around him, it was nuts!

It was the last gig before James (drums) and Tubbs (bass) moved to Sydney so as a finale, the two departing members jumped on the piano and played an awesome version of ‘Laptop’. Check the footage – i swear people were just about proposing to each other in the crowd! Such a tear-jerker!!
Anyways, we have nothing but love for the Coopers. They’ve been mates of ours for years now and whatever their new lineup turns out to be, i have no doubt that they will continue to make great music and smash live shows for many years to come.
