Last week we had the pleasure of playing a show after Mike Who & Dj Ability at Sydney’s Dust Tones. The night was heaps of fun and these guys absolutely smashed a 4 turntable hip hop set. Massive respect! Anyways, Mike Who has mixed this killer selection of reggae and dancehall, and i gotta tell ya – IT’S FIYAAAAAH!!!!  Wait for a sunny day, put this on your ghetto blaster and go sit on the beach with your friends. Happy friday, friends! I’m writing to tell you about this dope mixtape that our friends the Purple Sneakers Djs have recently dropped. It’s called ‘We Mix You Dance’. Its an epic ride through all sorts of indie/party/club tunes, and features a massive amount of AWESOME!

It’s a double cd, the first disc ‘Booty Shakin’ is mixed by M.I.T. and Ben Lucid, and is your first stop if you’re planning a house party anytime soon. And the second disc ‘Chin Strokin’ is mixed by PHDJ and features a lot of lesser known joints which makes for a great listener.

You can purchase this spicy little bundle of joy from ITUNES and even better, you can catch these guys next weekend! They will be at Neverland on the Gold Coast friday night, and then we will be supporting them at Empire in Bris on Saturday. BANG!

What up yall! … No but seriously folks, hello. Today ive got this new mixtape to share with you. its called In Good Company and it features all new hip hop joints from Whisper, A-Diction, and Syntax. I’ve noticed that Australian hip hop has been catching a bit of hate lately and i’m not really cool with that. In my opinion the hip hop thats been coming out of Aus lately is better than ever. No matter what the genre, there’s always gonna be people who aren’t feeling it. But my point is: If you’re not into a certain type of music, dont go jump online and talk a bunch of trash about it on blogs. There’s a lot of music out there that i dont like, and thats fine, laugh about it with your friends. Just dont be that anonymous hater on a web forum somewhere, because that dude is whats wrong with the world.

Ok, now that ive had my rant… cop this mixtape! If you like hip hop you will love this. Whisper is a long-time friend of ours and he makes some of the most soulful beats out there. He taught me how to make beats many years ago and i kind of ended up going in a different direction, but whenever i hear what he’s been making i am always blown away by it. Oh and his flow is untouchable! In fact, everyone on here totally holds it down.

I completely forgot that i did some of the cuts on this thing too haha! I was just sitting here listening to it and thinking “that sounds familiar” haha! There’s a little Surecut shout during the intro track. That was a nice surprise!

So, if hip hop is your thing… jump on this. Oh and sit tight for a collab coming out soon between us and Whisper. Its a slow-burning soul number with an amazing vocalist named Ginger Van Es. More on that soon. Peace!!

This is the latest project from the legends at Major Lazer. Its a mixtape full of La Roux remixes and blends. Its straight-up amazingness. So many dope versions on this thing, and they released it for free! Its totally provided the soundtrack to my weekend and its showing no signs of slowing up. If you’re into La Roux this will definately give you a musicgazm. If you’re not into her, thats fine too…Im not going to force my beliefs onto you. Enjoy!

Hello friends! Since the weekend is almost here we have a present for you: A mixtape!!!

Last year we started to do a few shows with the Purple Sneakers Djs where we were playing a much more ‘indie/party’ type of set than usual. It was a really fun challenge for us and a nice change of pace from all the club sets we had been playing. It led to our bookings kind of splitting into two directions: The more ‘club’ type of sets (where we were playing a lot of club-rap, baltimore, dubstep, booty-bass etc) and then these indie/party sets that were made up of mostly guitar based music, mashups, indie, pop, and party tunes etc. Anyways we really love doing both of those things so we figured since we already had a ‘club’ mixtape, we needed to make one to show what our indie/party sets are like. That was about a year ago and the mixtape was called ‘Indie Pants Dance’.

So here’s the second edition. We threw it together as quickly as possible and tried not to let it take over our lives as much as ‘We Dont Get Bored We Get Busy‘ did. Hopefully you enjoy it and bump it in your cars and house parties until this time next year!

Id like to introduce you to our friend Charlie Hustle. Charlie lives in Brisbane and is totally fucking awesome. He is awesome because he takes his shirt off at every show and has been kicked out of venues that he plays at (in hilarious incidents). He is also a totally bad-ass dj. When it comes to the party mash-up / hip hop stuff he absolutely wrecks shop. His set was one of my highlights at last year’s Parklife festival. We recently had the pleasure of doing a show with him and Woodsie (pictured here, wearing a shirt) at the Sampology gig. The boys played a really fresh set at the start of the night, and then proceeded to go back on stage after Sampology and keep the room going bananas for ages. I strongly recommend you go to their shows and get all sweaty in the front row.

Anyhoo…. Charlie’s got a new mixtape out. Its called ‘Bringing Skinny Back’ and its a monster! Go grab it from his soundcloud page HERE and bump that shit, son!

When A-Trak released the first ‘Dirty South Dance’ it was a real turning point for us. It opened our eyes to a style of music that can appeal to both dance-music lovers and hip hop heads. We definately have an interest in both of those areas, so to see them come together like that was really exciting for us. Our dj sets and our production are still very much influenced by this style. Its like the gritty end of dance music, without being straight up hip hop (which we still love, but if its not the right crowd it can sometimes kill a dancefloor).

Anyhoo, A-Trak has gone and turned out volume 2 here. The formula is the same as the first one: Hip Hop acapellas mashed up with dancefloor bombs. And he has been kind enough to let us download it for free! Go get yours HERE at his blog. Then put it on blast, invite your friends over for a breakdance battle and flick the lights on and off like a strobe.

Last Sunday we had a show at Dirty Sundays on the Gold Coast. Its always a dope party there but this one was particularly craaaazy! For starters it was a public holiday the next day so the place was packed to capacity. There was a line going down the block that apparently was a two hour wait if you were at the end of it (!). So obviously the crowd was awesome, but the best part was meeting these guys. Its always great to meet like-minded people and we definately had a lot in common musically. These guys absolutely smashed it with a party/club set that had the whole place sweating its tits off! I recommend you download their mixtape and relive the magic, or if you weren’t there just pretend. Also i recommend that if you ever get the chance to see these guys rock a party – drop everything and go there! Anyhoo, im sure we will be doing more shows together in future so keep an eye out for Bounce Crew!

This mix by Dirty South Joe and Flufftronix is one of the best things ive heard in ages. Its made up of tunes that sound like dubstep, except they’re all on the softer, more melodic tip (read: wussy). If you like bass music and dubstep and you’re chilling at home with that special someone (as opposed to throwing shapes in a club at 4am) then this is for you. Think of it as ‘dubstep that you can show your girlfriend’. Ive been listening to this mix like its on fire for weeks now and showing no signs of getting sick of it. The first five and a half minutes is them discussing the genre etc which is pretty interesting, and then after that its time to put the candles on. Enjoy!

Happy Monday, friends! Here’s something to start your week off in the right way – Its our new mixtape ‘We Don’t Get Bored, We Get Busy’. This was an exclusive mix we did for JJJ radio, and now that it’s gone to air we can share it with the world!

It’s a bit ‘party’ at the start, and then it heads to the club for the rest of the night. Its a pretty good representation of where we are at with our Dj sets at the moment. As with all our mixtapes, we laboured over it for ages and turned the studio into a stress-farm trying to decide which tracks to use. But we are both happy with the result. Hope you are too!
