The Surecut Kids

Vassuuuuuuup?!  Got a little nugget of goodness for you here if you are the type of person who likes your club tunes with a hint of hip hop. Bird Peterson has been giving away a free track per day over on his blog. There’s some oldies on there, some new joints, and there’s even some unreleased stuff… I had a sniff through and there seems to be a fair bit of slammin electro which isn’t massively my thing but still some of it was just too good to not download. But the real gems for me were these two…. I love a good club edit of a hip hop track so these had me foaming at the mouth.

‘The Jump Off’ is an amazing bassline remix of the classic Wu Tang Clan song. Guaranteed to tip the party into overdrive! And ‘Chuck The Deuce’ is catchy as hell and totally a great idea, but in my opinion the vocal gets a bit repetitive after a while so im working on a remix/edit now to try and take it even further. If it ends up turning out ok i’ll post it up here.

Oh! One last thing!! When you’re playing ‘Chuck The Deuce’ loudly and dancing around to it, may i suggest that you rap along with it but change the lyrics from “I got them diamonds in my mouth” to “I got vaginas in my mouth” ….. Trust me, you’ll be glad you did.

There is a weird running thing with us and Unicorns. I dont really know why but they just seem to pop up all the time. And we are not alone, i found thins on The Chrome Kids Blog. It’s pretty awesome to the MAX!!!

What up yall! … No but seriously folks, hello. Today ive got this new mixtape to share with you. its called In Good Company and it features all new hip hop joints from Whisper, A-Diction, and Syntax. I’ve noticed that Australian hip hop has been catching a bit of hate lately and i’m not really cool with that. In my opinion the hip hop thats been coming out of Aus lately is better than ever. No matter what the genre, there’s always gonna be people who aren’t feeling it. But my point is: If you’re not into a certain type of music, dont go jump online and talk a bunch of trash about it on blogs. There’s a lot of music out there that i dont like, and thats fine, laugh about it with your friends. Just dont be that anonymous hater on a web forum somewhere, because that dude is whats wrong with the world.

Ok, now that ive had my rant… cop this mixtape! If you like hip hop you will love this. Whisper is a long-time friend of ours and he makes some of the most soulful beats out there. He taught me how to make beats many years ago and i kind of ended up going in a different direction, but whenever i hear what he’s been making i am always blown away by it. Oh and his flow is untouchable! In fact, everyone on here totally holds it down.

I completely forgot that i did some of the cuts on this thing too haha! I was just sitting here listening to it and thinking “that sounds familiar” haha! There’s a little Surecut shout during the intro track. That was a nice surprise!

So, if hip hop is your thing… jump on this. Oh and sit tight for a collab coming out soon between us and Whisper. Its a slow-burning soul number with an amazing vocalist named Ginger Van Es. More on that soon. Peace!!

This is the latest project from the legends at Major Lazer. Its a mixtape full of La Roux remixes and blends. Its straight-up amazingness. So many dope versions on this thing, and they released it for free! Its totally provided the soundtrack to my weekend and its showing no signs of slowing up. If you’re into La Roux this will definately give you a musicgazm. If you’re not into her, thats fine too…Im not going to force my beliefs onto you. Enjoy!

Here’s a new remix from our good friend Cutloose. This time he has taken the classic ‘Sweet Dreams’ and given it a massive overhaul in his trademark glitch style. Its halftimed and full of bass. Its a collection of some of our favourite remixes and originals from recent times. A lot of the songs on here you may already be familiar with, or even have them already. When A-Trak released the first ‘Dirty South Dance’ it was a real turning point for us. It opened our eyes to a style of music that can appeal to both dance-music lovers and hip hop heads. We definately have an interest in both of those areas, so to see them come together like that was really exciting for us. Our dj sets and our production are still very much influenced by this style. Its like the gritty end of dance music, without being straight up hip hop (which we still love, but if its not the right crowd it can sometimes kill a dancefloor).

Anyhoo, A-Trak has gone and turned out volume 2 here. The formula is the same as the first one: Hip Hop acapellas mashed up with dancefloor bombs. And he has been kind enough to let us download it for free! Go get yours HERE at his blog. Then put it on blast, invite your friends over for a breakdance battle and flick the lights on and off like a strobe.

Plan B has been absolutely smashing it lately! The guy’s singing voice is amazing, his flow is dope, and he has just dropped a dope album called ‘The Defamation Of Strickland Banks’. If you like Mark Ronson / Dap King vibes, the album is dripping with them. Here’s a little taste to get you in the mood. I have not been able to drive anywhere this week without having this song on blast. The clip is awesome too. Now go cop that album!!

Here is a new remix from the Surecut Camp. We did this for the Spank records/ Sweat it out remix comp and we’re pretty happy with it,
so we got it mastered and hey presto!! it’s in your inbox for your good selves.

We did this with the idea of keeping it similar to the original for the intro, then when it drops, it in a way confuses the dance floor for a second.
Kind of like when you play a Dubstep remix of a popular tune and half the crowd go nuts and half the crowd shit they’re pants.

Here’s a silly little mashup that we made a million years ago, played a few times, and then forgot about. In fact, at the time we had it up on some internet forum and we got plenty of hate for it. Ok, i apologize in advance for this: im about to have a rant. Ive got both feet planted firmly on my soap-box so lets do this!

I’m not a fan of hearing people say “FML”. In fact I recently said…  ”When someone says FML i hear “Turn around and run the fuck away from me Mikey because i can’t accept responsibility for anything, so i blame my problems on life in general”   …Now dont get it twisted, there’s nothing wrong with expressing that you’ve had a shit day, or your flatmate ate your last bit of cheesecake that you were saving, or that your boss didn’t even notice that you’ve been working extra hard lately and skipping lunch so that you can totally nail that account for him. And actual depression is a very real and very serious thing which is not to be fucked with. So im talking specifically to the people who’s lives are just fine and are just feeling like they need a bit of a pat on the bum via facebook or whatever. It’s not life’s fault! When you say “Fuck My Life” you are totally telling people that you are a drama magnet and that you don’t take responsibility for anything. So what’s the solution? Have a think about where you are…. Do you get your drinking water from a dirty hole in the ground? No, you dont. You drink bottled water and chai latte. So, if you’ve had a shit day i’m happy to hear all about it. If you’ve just found out that they no longer make that yoghurt that you like, or that you washed your whites with your darks and now your favourite white shirt is salmon, then no worries! tell me the story! But dont blame it on ‘life’… Life didnt do that.
